Job Description
We are seeking a talented and curious Graduate Data Scientist to join our Data Science & Innovation team at a rapidly growing FinTech company. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, finance, and artificial intelligence, helping to build smarter products and data-driven solutions that improve how customers interact with financial services.
As a Graduate Data Scientist, you will contribute to projects across predictive modelling, customer intelligence, risk optimisation, and automation. You will work with large and diverse datasets, applying statistical techniques and machine learning methods to uncover insights and develop solutions that create measurable impact.
You will collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Product Managers, Software Developers, and Business teams, gaining exposure to the full data science lifecycle, from understanding business challenges and preparing data, through to developing, testing, and improving machine learning models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Explore and analyse complex datasets to uncover patterns, relationships, and opportunities for innovation.
- Develop machine learning models to support areas such as customer personalisation, fraud prevention, credit risk, and operational efficiency.
- Build predictive algorithms to help improve financial products and customer outcomes.
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) and communicate findings through clear visualisations and presentations.
- Design and implement data pipelines and analytical workflows alongside engineering teams.
- Apply statistical modelling techniques to evaluate business problems and test hypotheses.
- Support the development and improvement of AI-powered features within FinTech products.
- Monitor model performance and contribute to ongoing optimisation and improvement.
- Translate business requirements into data science solutions that deliver measurable value.
- Document analysis, methodologies, and technical approaches to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- Keep up to date with developments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and financial technology.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (2:1 or above) in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or another quantitative subject.
- FinTech and Compliance certification is required, demonstrating knowledge of digital financial services, regulatory frameworks, compliance principles, risk management, and the governance requirements applicable to technology-driven financial organisations.
- Strong programming ability in Python, with experience using libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, and Matplotlib.
- Good understanding of machine learning concepts, including classification, regression, clustering, and model evaluation.
- Experience working with SQL and extracting insights from structured datasets.
- Strong foundation in statistics, probability, and analytical reasoning.
- Ability to approach ambiguous problems logically and develop data-driven solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Genuine interest in financial technology, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
Desirable:
- Experience developing machine learning models through university projects, internships, research, or personal projects.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Understanding of data engineering concepts, APIs, and database technologies.
- Knowledge of MLOps practices, including model deployment and monitoring.
- Experience with financial datasets, payments, lending, investment platforms, or digital banking.
- A portfolio of data science projects, GitHub repositories, or published analytical work.
